| Annabra | Alesra's younger sister. |
| Anoba | Nebyr's servant. She used to be a free warrior woman until she ran up some gambling debts. |
| Asalza | The High Priestess of Ptatonkel in Paranaxidar. She is also the mother of Belgarath. |
| Askelion | Ptemarak's Captain of the Guard. He was slain in the assault on Ptemarak's holdings. |
| Asnyl | A finalist for the hand of Alesra. |
| Asta | The goddess of war and love. |
| Axaxaxas | The humorless High Priest of Rasemba. He is also the Pharos of Anbylos. His all-consuming desire is to restore the Covenant of Rasemba. |
| Azzameth | The Sunbearer. A mortal so loved by the gods that when his beloved Ellusya was stolen from him, they give him the lamp Auris to help look for her. |
| Baera | A niece of Zembar. |
| Begra II | The dur of Red Begra. Father of Alesra. |
| Begra III | Duran of Red Begra, also known as Little Begra. The first-born son of Begra II. Husband to Osozi. |
| Belgarath | A warrior of Zerbix and one-time Captain of the Guard in Pharax. He is the son of Cor and Asalza. He received a severe head wound and lost his memory. He now goes by the name Gareth. |
| Bephmet | The son of Sezael and the High Priest of Settem. He competed for the hand of Alesra, but did not make it to the finals. |
| Bera | A niece of Zembar. |
| Bora | A niece of Zembar. |
| Borixalman | The wizard who forged the Serpent Sword. |
| Boxazonydon | The full name of Xaz. |
| Brightstar | A guardian of the Waters of Life who was kidnapped and sent to the mortal realms by his friend and rival, Darkwind. He is the product of a human father, Cor, and a non-human guardian; and, as such, can assume either form. |
| Bura | A niece of Zembar. |
| Byra | A niece of Zembar. |
| Cor | The great hero of Anbylos, who lived about thirty years ago. He is said to have done almost everything and gone almost everywhere. His great curse was that no weapon would serve him for longer than a month. What finally became of him, no one knows; but he left behind numerous offspring to carry on his good name. |
| Dainar | An embezzling scribe at Isma. |
| Delbora | A female companion of Zaranyi while he is in Isma. |
| Derek | Brightstar's name when he is in human form. He looks like a normal human, except that he has a nub protruding from his forehead. |
| Dexeter | A naive necromancer from the Unlit Lands. His mother died permanently in childbirth, and his father, Red Enjetni, cannot bear to think of him. Dexeter was raised by his dead uncle, the Wizard of Lugulbanda, and taught the arts of necromancy. |
| Dumardanizek | A contestant for the hand of Alesra. He made it to the finals but was slain by Ptemarak while searching for zooki feathers. |
| Ebnaru | The high priest of Nazzer. He appears to be very old. |
| Edkara | A courtesan who was turned into a spider by Zul. |
| Egenkyr | Brother of Rasemar. He fled to Elyl for sanctuary. |
| Elgor | Captain of the Guard at Isma. |
| Elovard | A Cold Sorceress and the wife of Halovard. |
| Ellusya | The beautiful woman stolen from Azzameth. |
| Enzasmardu | An ambitious Ebyr of the House of the Sapphire Sword. Among other things, he is an embezzler, a liar, a demon-worshiper, and a fair swordsman. |
| Ergozu | Duran of Red Begra and Alesra's younger brother. |
| Exmyr | An alias used by Garzarin while he was hiding in Opar. |
| Galesa | One of the Old Ladies of Gis. Sister to Phynyra. |
| Gareth | A warrior who has the favor of Ptatonkel. He has no memory of his past, but the past continues to shape his life. |
| Garzarin | The Commander of the Guard in Opar. He takes the occasional bribe. |
| Greyfax | A priest of Anbylos. |
| Habib | A warrior of Anbylos who has helped out Nebyr and company. |
| Halovard | A dead Frost Giant from the Cold Wastes and the husband of Elovard. |
| Igothithiin | A warrior-woman from Qwm Adao. She has quite a reputation for her stunning looks, her quick temper, and her skilled sword arm. She commonly accompanies Marax. |
| Jojakaiba | An illusionist and adventurer. Born in Qwm. |
| Kalar | A wizard of Anbylos. |
| Kalgog | A Torg Prince. |
| Kaltarnaknak | A warrior-smith of Anbylos. He possesses an enchanted longsword that once belonged to Kalgog. |
| Karradeth | A warrior of Anbylos. He has helped fight against the Nazzerites in the Burning Mountains. |
| Lassor | An adventuring draconian from Menelmaeth. Skilled both in the dealing and curing of wounds. |
| Marax | A warrior of Gis. He is most famous for his association with Igothithiin. |
| Marduk | A cowardly guide of Ptat. He was killed during the rescue of Alesra at the temple of Settem. |
| Mavraczarpnik | The wise Mage-Prince of long ago who wished to know the secrets of the afterlife. To this end he followed the handmaidens of Myirié to her realm, where he eventually became her consort. |
| Mazzurmaxos | The late Dur of Anbylos. A prophetic dream caused him to fear death from bees. His mania culminated in attacking unarmed priests during a festival day, whereupon he fell from his balcony and broke his neck. |
| Nebyr | A paladin and servant of Rasemba. |
| Nicossa | An intriguer in the service of Nazzer. He is handsome, charming, and well-versed in many dangerous arts. |
| Nilgath | The cousin of Razzamur who was falsely accused of embezzlement and who died while serving his sentence in slavery. |
| Oiji | Barracks sergeant at Isma. |
| Oram | An ex-Port Authority guard from Opar. He helped Jojakaiba and Trogral bring Tomar to justice after they got him in trouble while on duty. |
| Orzasamar | The Captain of the Dur's Guard in Anbylos. |
| Osozi | Wife of Begra III. |
| Phynyra | One of the Old Ladies of Gis. Sister to Galesa. |
| Ptemarak | A slaver of Paranaxidar who once extorted the Sash of Wisdom from Xaz' uncle. He competed for the hand of Alesra but was slain by the dur's guards for treachery. |
| Rasemar | The new Das of Anbylos. |
| Razzamur | A warrior of Anbylos whose life goal it was to remove the stain from his cousin's name. |
| Red Enjetni | A great warrior from Mallerehmadrugatha, and the slayer of the Wizard of Lugulbanda. At one point he was captured by the (dead) Wizard and was forced to couple with his (equally dead) sister. This unnatural union brought about the death of the Wizard's sister and the birth of Dexeter. |
| Settem | The god of serpents. |
| Sezael | The daughter of a wealthy merchant of Paranaxidar. She was kidnapped by the priests of Settem and was the wife of the High Priest for several years. |
| Soninibara | A former priestess at the temple at Dawn's Open. She now carries Gareth's child and hates him. |
| Sulga | Zul's favorite hound. Her icon was stolen from Zul's temple at Vizig Mountain about three years ago. |
| Telarra | A female water spirit who used to be bound at Isma. She was released by Nebyr. |
| Tesa | A pure-hearted maiden of Red Begra who was kidnapped by Vaxor to lure zooki birds. She is in love with Dexeter. |
| Toram | An ex-priest of Rasemba who embezzled funds from the temple and fled to Opar. He was apprehended by Jojakaiba and Trogral and was sentenced to slavery. |
| Toros | An adventuring priest of Aser. He is also an orphan. He was slain during Gareth's search for a zooki feather. |
| Trogral | A wizard and adventurer of Anbylos. |
| Ulalla | The late duri of Red Begra. Mother of Alesra. |
| Uzbinittim | Tesa's father. A weaver in Red Begra. |
| Varhya Rejna | The sagacious elephant-headed icon of legend. He is nearly all-knowing, there being only four things that he does not know. He gets around. |
| Vaxor | A sorcerer who trapped zooki birds to make a cloak from their feathers. |
| Velkor | A Vemish priest. |
| Wizard of Lugulbanda | A powerful necromancer from the Unlit Lands. He was slain many years ago by the great Red Enjetni, but this has only been a slight impediment to his evil plans. |
| Xaz | A Vemish adventurer and last of the royal line of Vemyr. It is his goal to restore the land of his people. |
| Xomarrion | A wandering minstrel from Mallerehmadrugatha. He helped restore the Chalice of Life to the Temple of Curam. |
| Zaranyi | The demon-spawned warrior who commands the Hosts of the Sulgir. His claim is that "the weapon has not yet been forged which can kill me." His amazing recuperative powers seem to bear this out. |
| Zembar | An aged philosopher with five willing and beautiful nieces. |
| Zula | A handmaiden of Alesra. |
